Development of an Analytical Method using Gas Chromatography – Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) to Quantify Hydrocarbons Released into the Environment during an Oil Spill

Scottish Marine and Freshwater Science Vol 11 No 6
This report describes the method validation for GC-MS quantification of n-alkanes using deuterated internal standards to determine the presence of hydrocarbons in the environment following an oil spill. A gas chromatography – mass spectrometry (GC-MS) method was developed and validated for the determination of n-alkanes and isoprenoids (pristane and phytane) in fish (trout muscle), using seven deuterated internal standards. Data are presented in csv files alongside the report.
