This report is a review of the science around the topic of gene banking for salmon conservation. Scientific understanding of risks and benefits of gene banking is reviewed with a particular focus on cryobanking. The report provides an overview that brings together the science behind the various considerations needed when considering gene banking, with a view to aiding design of salmon conservation strategies that balance risks and benefits within a broad policy framework.
