The interactive maps show the results of the Scottish Government Marine Directorate analysis to map areas of high risk from introduction of non-indigenous species (NIS) to assist in planning monitoring strategies for NIS.</p>
<p>The maps show the patches of highest risk from introduction and internal spread, those high risk patches within a marine protected area with a benthic feature, and the boundary of that MPA, and patches of highest risk of introduction and internal spread that also have a high risk of establishment by D. vexillum.</p>
<p>The three maps show these layers when all activities that can cause spread of NIS are considered, when only those associated with shipping or recreational boating are considered, and only those associated with aquaculture activities.<br />
The map for shipping and recreational boating also includes a layer on the point location of ports, harbours and marinas.<br />
The map for aquaculture also includes a layer on the point locations of active fish and shellfish farms.</p>

The risk is based on intensity of activities associated with the introduction and spread of NIS. There are three maps. The first are the areas of high risk when considering all activities, the two other maps are the areas of high risk when only considering activities associated with shipping and recreational boating, and aquaculture, respectively.</p>
<p>The layer All high risk patches show all the locations that had a risk of introduction and internal spread greater than or equal to the 99th-percentile.</p>
<p>The orange rings on the Establishment hotspots layer highlight the patches of highest risk of introduction and internal spread that also have one of the top 20 scores for suitable conditions for the establishment by the carpet sea squirt (Didemnum vexillum). The rings may contain multiple patches that are in the top 20, and other patches that are not predicted to have conditions that are highly suitable for D. vexillum. Patches that are predicted to be in the top 20 for conditions of establishment by D.vexillum are in displayed in darker orange.</p>
<p>The Overlaps with MPA layer highlights the patches with highest risk of introduction and internal spread that are within a Special Area of Conservation, a Nature Conservation MPA or a Special Site of Scientific Interest. Only Marine Protected Areas with a habitat or a low or limited mobility species as a designated feature were included. Patches that are overlap with an MPA are in displayed in darker purple.</p>
