The samples originate from inshore, coastal and offshore zones of the UK EEZ and were used to understand the quality and reactivity of organic matter held within continental shelf sediments. The sites were chosen to be represent all major depositional zones on a typical continental shelf these include inshore (fjords and estuaries), coastal (<5 km from land) and offshore (>5 km from land) settings.
The data provide a quantitative measure of sediment type, organic carbon, C/N ratios, organic matter fractions (labile, recalcitrant, and refractory) and organic matter reactivity.
The work was supported by the Scottish Blue Carbon Forum.

https://data.marine.gov.scot/dataset/geochemical-analysis-quality-and-reactivity-organic-matter-held-marine-sediments-united
https://data.marine.gov.scot/sites/default/files//Supporting_Documentation_Sedimentary_OC_Quality_Reactivity.pdf

Marine Directorate undertakes a wide range of monitoring covering many aspects of the Scottish marine ecosystem.

Monitoring is undertaken in Scottish Inshore Waters, using networks of volunteers and automatic recording equipment, as well as in Scottish Offshore Waters, using the MSS research vessels MRV Alba na Mara and MRV Scotia.

Marine Scotland Science also participates national monitoring programmes, such as:

UK Marine Monitoring and Assessment Strategy (UKMMAS)

UK Marine Environmental Change Network (MECN)

UK Marine Environmental Data and Information Network (MEDIN)

This group provides published data from monitoring these activities.
